An Elemental Human Right

Enriching my being and senses is, to me, like sitting on a bench watching a glorious wondrous sunset. I think that I have a right to the gift. But there is a persistent social imposition that is like having a blind man come by, swish his cane and tell me that that sunset doesn’t exist, or that it is unimportant, or irrelevant. To be denied the wonderment of this body going about its day, exposed to all the sensation that a day can give is cheating me. The imposition of not living naked diminishes my experience of my precious day on Earth.

We have a right to our natural senses. To stand outside and breathe fresh air and its scents. To sense with the entire body is elemental. To walk freely nude, is like a breath of fresh air and I would say that they are both simply a human Right.

This is a short post, something that I wrote a while back about true justice. There simply isn’t enough time these couple of weeks to sit down and finish the complex continuation, or the finale of either of the two story directions that we are flowing toward.

Sun

We are here because of the sun. We evolved with the sun. It is our nature to enjoy the sun. Our bodies are meant to live in sunlight, they need sunlight, they know how to adjust to sunlight, they have millions of cues and sensors to work with the sun. We are hardwired. We’re symbiotic. We’re dependent on the sun.

That being said, what is sunblock for? What is clothing for on a sunny day? It would seem that both of these are silly, basically dysfunctional and mistaken. It may be because we spend too much time indoors. Yes, some skin is more sensitive, but most is not, given time with sun and lovely shade.

Why does it feel so good to be undressed? It is because we are meant to be that way. How are there senseless laws, customs, cultures, and fears that deny a natural body, its natural existence?

Still out here naked in the wilderness. Sometimes the cold nights up here inspire the wood burning stove in the tent, or to be bundled up by the campfire under the Milky Way.

Mountain Sojourn

When I stand naked in nature, there is that which is innate. It’s as a sense of God, or a nebulous being that is all in nature, something greater. I just kind of “get it.” I am that. The nature of the universe is what it is and my sense of it is awe.

At the same time, I take a bare step, with all of that sensuality, sensation, amazing coordination, in an interaction of astounding numbers of ways. I live in this vehicle. I am of this vehicle and it is of the rest. Each step is a prayer.

Here I am, lost in a whole. I am everything and I am nothing, yet I observe.

DF and I are going on a sojourn in the mountains. We’ll come back when the monsoon returns and begin the eighth year of publishing this website.

Birthday Walk

2022-05-10 Tucson

It is a Birthday. It begins casually, leading to a brunch on a sidewalk café in an eastside strip mall. The food is good, but all of the hanging plants and wrought iron won’t escape the fact that we’re eating in their big parking lot.

Afterward, I use a door panel and the other cars next door in that parking area, to get out of my pants and into my hiking kilt. With the addition of toe shoes, I’m nearly ready.

We are near the base of scenic Mt. Lemon Highway, a long meander up into the Catalina Mountains. It starts in desert and finishes in alpine conditions at 9200 feet. Our destination is a beautiful 20 mile drive from the restaurant.

About half the way, we pull off into a familiar small parking lot on the side of the road, at around 7000 feet. This was the trailhead for our Lower Bug Springs Trail hike a couple of years back. With birthday celebrations in the order of our day, we have decided to do this shorter easier trail in the compressed time that we have. DF wants to feel nature, the solitude, the sensual nudity and be in touch with a grounding spiritual experience. It is her day, her celebration.

Art and Practical Nudity

Something I found and saved awhile back:

“I found being naked to be a humbling experience . . . There were no clothes that could make me feel like I was anything other than who I am:  A being created by God, whose purpose is to find, and do, whatever He created me to do. . . Being naked isn’t a means of attaining inner peace.  But: Being naked can direct a person towards the source of inner peace: God. . . What I will do, is allow the humility that being naked made me feel to direct my heart to the only one who can satisfy my deepest, most desperate desires. . . you’re not a freak or a pervert if you want to be naked.  God meant for you to be naked. . . I see the desire to be naked as a desire to return to God — a desire to reclaim the relationship with God, the relationship with our fellow human beings, and the relationship with the world, that was lost as a result of Adam’s and Eve’s sin.”

https://timothyach.wordpress.com/2016/11/08/my-experience-being-naked/

Over the years I have come to the conclusion that suitable clothing should be worn for activities and that if the suitable attire is not to wear any clothing, then that is what should be done.

World Naked Gardening Day 2022

It’s the first Saturday of May again and World Naked Gardening Day!

I have a blank canvas of an urban yard. Decades ago, it was once an arugula field, so the soil is very rich.

I have been used to a natural automatic garden with a rock slope in Tortolita. All I needed to do was to occasionally trim back the overgrowth on the trails there. It was a living ecosystem. This new place in town has no rocks and little native vegetation. I’m looking to make it an edible meditation garden. It all goes hand in hand with the new community sweat, now on the property (Much about that in a later post).

Thanks Given for the Key

When I contemplate peace, I feel my oneness with all I know and beyond. There is that quiet strength that it gives me. When I see a tranquil lake, a gorgeous sunset, or a mountain stream, smell a familiar scent, or hear the wings of a passing bird, I know that.

A vista, or the array of stars will put within me awareness of my sense of the vast identity that I share, I know that strength. When I feel the air and the sun across my nude body, my feet upon the Earth the energetic or reassuring touch of another, that body knows thanks.  I can feel thanks in this body, more than to just think it, or to list it in the mind. The beauty around me and within me, that which I am, is the gratitude and oneness.

Feeling peaceful, I am relaxed and calm. I glow from within and feel serenity in my soul. I breathe easier, remain positive and always feel thanks. I am mindful of my place in the universe and the difference that I make in this world. I am a spiritual being in this body, sharing my unique energy and talents.

I can travel far to grasp the magnificent experiences, or I can walk naked where I am, at any given moment, to realize my being and my peace.

There is inspiration by the beauty of creation to know calm and strength through oneness.

I am truly blessed.

Japa Yoga, Like Nobody’s Watching

When I ran to a temple in India, I was seeking knowledge and transformation. I had the curiosity to learn ancient ways first hand and not through a book. I wanted secrets. I was intrigued with possibilities that I could find oneness with that something/everything.  What do they mean by “to end suffering,” to “loosen attachment?” How is that so? I also had a paper to write for my Master’s degree and I wanted something fresh.

Each day, I was given a litany of various yogas. Most were not about western ideas of health; most were not physical. A yoga is a path to Awakening there.  Where I went, it was treated like shotgun medicine. If you try ten yogas, perhaps one will be your holy key, you’ll stick to that one, if it works for you.

One that I particularly enjoy is what this temple called Japa Yoga. I have seen other things here in the west called the same. This one, I find, can be practiced without any strict proprieties. It is fun, yet it will bring one into the moment, away from the periphery of imposing influences of daily modern life, and uses the whole body in a most healthy and rejuvenating way.   The basic idea is to allow the body to let go, to let go of the body and to allow something essential to take over. It arrives as a free form dance.

Not Getting Lost: Part 2

2020-03-17

2020-03-17

This is the end of the previous tale about navigation when hiking. I am on my way back to Terra Sante across wide open spaces of various terrain. The first part can be found as the previous post.

Returning:

My memory of the subtle differences in my landmarks faulty, I am having a tough time staying on my route, except when I find the jeep trail that crosses my path. Soon enough, I’m making my way toward the sticks that I placed to point the way.

This jeep trail has been a relief from the random wandering through the open desert. The harsh thick plant life makes a straight line of any kind impossible.
