Body Repression  from a Naked Pulpit

It’s just a body. Relax. Take some time to explore being completely naked and with others. It feels really good. No fear here. You will probably come to thoughts like, “Yup, I’ve got one of those, too.” “Oh, that’s interesting.” It is life, a matter of fact, natural, but….

The rules and life in America, from a very early age don’t support those thoughts.

A few random thoughts about bringing up children and the dark side.

We are taught to beware a life without clothes!

As an American, I have been led to believe, to see myself and to look at other’s bodies as purely sexual objects. From this training into illusion, I have received inhibition, shame, out and out fear of being seen and seeing others in their natural state. Much of what is me, a blessing, has been termed forbidden fruit, disgusting, dangerous, immoral, nasty dirty.

I have also been told that exposure of parts of me is a supreme vulnerability, I could be destroyed. The embarrassment and the harm to my social position might feel like a fate worse than death.

I have been taught at an early formative age to hide my genitals from others, that ogres are waiting to take advantage of me, to rape, humiliate, to lust.  They told me that everyone else will be uncomfortable with my nude body. They will be repelled, shocked, brought helplessly to sexual thought and deed, chaos. There will be the breakdown of my social support, banishment from all, a pariah. A low life reputation and slutty realm of social standing will ensue. I MUST keep them and most of the body hidden.

Doctors have told me that naked, your skin will burn red, peel off in pain, a Hell on Earth.  “Haven’t you heard? Nipples and genitals will burn more easily.”  Many people seem to believe that a sunburn will burn them, the damage irreversibly and eternally, like fire and brimstone. What burns most easy? Sit’s the shoulders and the top of your nose.

Our sick society teaches that to reveal is to, “ask for it,” “nothing is more stimulating.”  Well, is it? Are our urges so unmanageable, or is it just something imagined in someone’s head.

We live in a world where fashion is a striptease, to entice, to accentuate, to seduce, to attract, and make us sexual objects.  Isn’t clothing just a function of protection from weather, or just some fun for decoration? What am I to make out of that contradiction? It is confusing, but a naked body is not.  In a naked body you know what you are out to project. You know when you feel cold or hot, or frisky.

When what I wear defines who I am, it confines me to an image, a projection of limited potential. I can lose individuality to a team, a tribe, don a disguise, a big lie, a white lie, a hurtful lie to others and finally a lie to oneself. How many are trapped in a lie to oneself.

So, it goes on…We are not safe without clothing, the uniformity breaks down, the submission, the allegiance to the group conformity, and you will be a threat to others. If you don’t play the game, you will be crushed, your dreams will be crushed, your loved ones, it will hurt. Going without “proper” clothing will destroy everything that you value.

When dressed, I am blocked in degree from every sensory blessing and natural gift that my body possesses. Air temperature, humidity, a million subtle perceptions are combining.  Many feelings, excitement, what makes me feel a part of, is cut off, or diluted, because, I no longer am aware of them. Often, my sight is the dominate gift, the one overused ability, when the rest are choked away.  When one isn’t in the present, even sensual food is gobbled down, a passing refection on a first bite happens, before it is swallowed down and washed away.

Bodies are reduced to a utility for function, to work and produce efficiently. They are not a vehicle to enjoy in the moment, to harmonize with a sense of life and being. Seeing with skin and energetic perception, are often seen as a laughable notion. Trapped in the obsession of clothing, I am cut off from all of those subtle messages and natural functions. Life might just be like living in a video game.

Bacterial imbalance grows inside clothing and I am left with the idea that my body is dirty and unhealthy. I must wash my hands after touching it, neglect the body parts that need TLC attention. Confined, I am shutting off the wellsprings of life, the connections to a world that is rich with experience in every moment.

America points its finger out across the world at repressive societies, which are often based of deep faith in a religion, maybe with billions of mislead people. What about the three fingers that point back?  We are given sexual objectification, shame, and degrees of body repression, each and every one of us, our culture, our social constructs, our most private secretive selves, our judgement of our very own bodies. There is criminalization of our most personal wholesome selves. There is an American Taliban, where we have the same types of characters seeking similar controls.

Social shackles, literal imprisonment, a subtle slavery, self-abuse, mental abuse, all come to mind, when I look around. Deep personal fear and guilt have been inherited from the foolish.

I am not a pervert. It is not just some harmless cloth, the significance and influence should not be diminished, or passed off, Things are very much out of hand, all the way to becoming literally sick.

This is a partial list. Maybe you are one of the people who aren’t aware and this dark rant makes no sense. Maybe, the veil of clothing is coming off in self realized layers. Give time time, but…

…The next time that you hear something like, “Good girls don’t do that,” or the, “you’re a naked slut” epitaph. The next time that you read about a child’s suicide, because someone posted a picture of them without clothing, think about our culture and remember what I said above: “It’s just a body. Relax. Take some time to explore being completely naked and with others. It feels really good. No fear here.”

I’ve been tied up on a renovation project and missed last week’s publication.  This has been sitting around. I hope it isn’t too dour, after a scary Halloween and the American election night.. Hopefully, I’ll find one full day before Thanksgiving, to get started on the first fun post about our nude cross country trip. I also acquired a Gopro. As thing go by, we’ll learn about using that, too.

I am on the forum of FreeRangeNaturism.com often, if you would like to converse.

  3. Very eloquent and no argument from me. What’s funny is how the whole American perspective frames the issue as clothing vs nudity. But if you look at a country like France you see that they place even more importance on clothing than the US yet social nudity is common, accepted, & even expected in some situations so is there really a ‘vs’ involved?

I wouldn’t call your rant ‘dark’ at all. The topic is what’s ‘dark’. IMO, it applies to a whole buch of other aspects of society as well and one could write a whole book about fear, guilt, & a lot more ‘being inherited from the foolish’ and being blindly accepted and followed.

Good post. You are entitled to your “rant.” I find it hard to believe it’s been 51 years since my first nude beach experience, and almost nothing has changed in that regard. But the filth, atrocity and total lack of shame in other aspects of American life makes me crazy. Continue to speak out. Thanks.

I love every bit of this. Thank you. As many people as possible need to read this and more than once. I will likely be referencing this whenever people say ignorant things and derserve a response. Aslo, when MSM hauls out the same tired old derrogatory terms and narratives we should try to change that narrative. So many concepts covered here each deserving of a detailed discussion. Podcasters out there, please have invite these folks on your show. These facts need to be heard.
